Still looking for the perfect idea for your next team offsite? 😉 Or maybe you want to add something truly impactful to your team meetings? Then you’re in the right place!

These strength-based exercises build trust, boost collaboration, and amplify your team’s impact. In short: they help you move forward – together.

Exercise 1: Manual to Me

Ever wished your colleagues came with a user manual? Well, here’s your chance! A “Manual to Me” gives you exactly that – plus a whole lot more. 😎

Perfect for: New teams, building trust

Duration: 45–60 minutes

Why it works: You get to know each other in a fun way while creating a foundation of mutual respect and collaboration..

How it works

Preparation

  • Each team member takes a strengths assessment (e.g., on wyrd.io).
  • Everyone reflects on their strengths individually.

During the session

  • Each person creates their own user manual on a flipchart – writing, drawing, adding visuals… anything goes!
    • My claim: One sentence that sums me up
    • My top strengths (Pick 3-7)
    • How my strengths show up in daily work: (e.g., conception, execution, influence, relationships)
    • What I bring to the team
    • The flip side of my strengths (How they can become a weakness if overused)
    • My deep strengths (What you won’t get from me!)
    • What throws me off (E.g., if you have an analytical mindset, emotional decisions might frustrate you)
  • Once everyone has finished, the posters are displayed around the room. The team does a gallery walk, presenting their manuals and answering questions (5-10 minutes per person, depending on team size).

After the session

  • Keep the posters visible in the office or take photos to share digitally – so they stay top of mind!

Exercise 2: Team Strengths Map

Your team’s strengths map is more than just a nice overview – it’s a strategic tool. It helps you see where your collective talents shine, what makes each of you unique, and where your team could use extra support.

Clear & powerful
wyrd Team Strengths Report

Perfect for: Defining team vision, clarifying roles, sharpening goals

Duration: 60 minutes

Why it works: You leverage your strengths more effectively – reducing stress while increasing fulfillment and impact.

Step 1: Identify Shared Strengths

Your team’s shared strengths are your collective superpower. They show where you naturally excel and how you can reach your goals more effectively.

  • How it works
    • Spot strengths that multiple team members share.
    • Brainstorm ways to use them strategically.
  • Examples
    • Explorer Strength: Turn curiosity into action – host learning sessions for the team or the entire organisation.
    • Optimist Strength: Be the team that lifts others up, even during stressful times.
    • Networker Strength: Represent your organisation at industry events and build valuable connections.
  • Pro Tip
    • Align your team vision, goals, and priorities with these strengths.

Step 2: Identify Individual Specialties

Everyone brings something unique to the table. Make sure these strengths are being used where they add the most value.

  • How it works
    • Analyse individual strengths. Who has something no one else does?
    • Adjust task distribution or even roles & responsibilities to maximise impact.
  • Examples
    • Coordinator Strength: Owns planning, documentation, and keeps big projects on track.
    • Communicator Strength: Steps up when the team needs a voice – internally or publicly.
    • Investigator Strength: Becomes the go-to person for data and spreadsheets.
  • Pro Tip
    • Are you just listing specialties, or are you redefining roles to play to your team’s full potential?

Step 3: Tackle Gaps with Confidence

No team is perfect – and that’s totally fine. What matters is how you handle the gaps.

  • How it works
    • Explore the strengths that nobody has in their top strengths.
    • (1) Ignore it: If the missing strength isn’t crucial, let it go.
    • (2) Develop it: Does someone have an interest or mid-level skill that could be grown? If it benefits the team, invest in developing it.
    • (3) Outsource it: Get help from other teams or external experts when needed.
  • Examples
    • Bridge Builder Strength: If no one naturally connects people, could HR facilitate a quarterly team retro?
    • Investigator Strength: If data analysis isn’t your thing, could someone from Finance help with budget planning?
  • Pro Tip
    • Use a whiteboard with three columns (Ignore | Develop | Outsource) and sort missing strengths into each category with sticky notes.

Exercise 3: Highlights-Reel

Reflect on your team’s best moments, identify the strengths that made them possible, and use those insights to create future successes.

Perfect for: Team building

Duration: 45 minutes

Why it works: Focusing on successes boosts confidence and strengthens team spirit. Shared stories reveal what makes you unique and how you can use your strengths to tackle future challenges.

1. Kickoff: Activate Success Mode

  • The facilitator sets the stage: Today, we celebrate our successes and uncover what makes us strong.
  • Highlights: Each person shares a moment when the team was at its best.

2. Share Stories: Analyze the Highlights

  • In small groups (2–3 people), everyone revisits their highlight moment.
    • What was the challenge?
    • Which strengths helped us succeed?
    • What was the outcome?

3. Identify Team Strengths

  • Back in the full group, each small group shares one or more key stories.
  • Facilitator captures strengths on a flipchart/whiteboard (e.g., “Inventor”, “Discipline”).
  • Cluster similar strengths and Identify 2–3 signature strengths that define the team.

4. Apply to the Future

  • Discussion:
    • How can we intentionally use our strengths?
    • Where have we underutilised them?
    • How can we make them more visible in daily work?
  • Outcome: Visualise your signature strengths – create a poster, motto, or other reminder to keep them front and center for future challenges.

Ready?

Then have fun and success working with your strengths – intentionally! 🚀
